Questions for the reading Club:

Question #1: How can we correct the dominant frame of “singular [often white, usually male] genius” in our own areas of work? How might we make our debts to collaboration and interdependence more visible? Is there an example you can share where you’ve tried to do this?

Question #2: Attention is a scarce resource that is not equitably distributed amongst communities and or individual designers. Paid professional design work is an elite network, and with ‘technojournalism’ - the attention on those who are marginalized is geared towards ‘why it should be surprising to see’. How can design teams ensure more equitable attention distribution? How can we better talk about and advocate for design justice with people who don’t care about these power imbalances? Do you have an example in which you tried to bring design justice into your work and were not get recognized or left out?
