Our next JN Toronto meeting is:
Thursday, April 16th @ 6:30pm EST
It was decided to start our reading group with the introduction to the newly published "Design Justice: Community-Led Practices to Build the Worlds We Need," by DJN's very own Sacha Costanza-Chock! You can read and download this chapter here.
The second half of our April 16th meeting (7:30-8:30 pm) will be dedicated to discussing this chapter. To get us started here are two questions proposed for discussion (please come and share your own questions!):
1. Reflecting on Sasha's #TravellingWhileTrans story, can you think of a time you felt stress having to interact with an institutional system? How might design have played a role in shaping this experience?
2. Thinking about our response to COVID-19, what is the role of design in distributing risk and harm in today's crisis? What are the dangers of a "single-axis" perspective as opposed to an intersectional approach to developing solutions? How might a design justice approach help ensure that benefits are more evenly distributed?
Currently we will host these meetings online through video (or non-video) chat, with a call-in number. The link for the meetings is here, and dial-in information as well:
