Framing Conflict as Play
Two-Part Virtual Series with Meenadchi
As we design the worlds we want, we know there will never be a world without conflict—but we can learn how to hold the multiplicity of our differences in ways that are generative, playful and authentic. Join our September Care Pod Series, where we’ll experience framing conflict as play with somatic healing practitioner, Meenadchi, whose work centers social change and embodied transformation.
We invite you to join both gatherings or one, choosing which focus feels most relevant for you. These experiences are virtual, free, and open to people practicing (or curious about) Design Justice and Design Justice Principles. DJN Membership and previous attendance are not required. Design Justice Principles will be weaved into each gathering and we will invite discussions that connect us back to creative, collaborative ways of working and being.
CARE CIRCLE
September 16, 2023 / 1 - 3:30PM EDT
For our first Care Circle, we will gently enter the topic of conflict and explore play as a pathway towards growing our capacity to engage with conflict with more agency, communication, and body awareness. Joyful play and curiosity will become our guiding forces throughout the gathering. Through guided prompts, we will discover what kind of “conflict players” we are in our relationships, with different archetypes to try on and experiment with.
PRACTICE SPACE
September 26, 2023 / 6 - 8:30PM EDT
In this Practice Space, we will practice conflict through role plays, deepening our somatic listening from the Care Circle and building tangible skills to approach everyday situations with a sense of choice. There will be various ways to participate with small group role play activities: being on-camera; being off-camera and verbally engaging; or being off-camera and moving through conflict over text. We will integrate our theoretical understanding with the embodied relationship to conflict we want in our real lives.
This is for you if…
You’re currently experiencing or have previously experienced being in conflict where you didn’t feel supported, where it didn’t feel generative, and you want tools to respond in moments where tension or unease are occurring.
You’re curious about your own responses and what’s held in your body throughout the presence of conflict.
You’re seeking community, guidance, and playful exploration around holding space for conflict.
