Announcement: Welcoming New Steering Committee Members!

Hi DJN Members and Network!

As many of you know, last March we said goodbye to one of our founders, Una Lee, cofounder of DJN. Una moved on from her role as a steering committee member to focus on her other amazing initiatives and roles such as Creative Director of And Also Too, and Director of the Consentful Tech Project.

Since then we have identified the need for more support and insight for both members and staff. We are excited to let DJN members know that we have expanded our capacity through the addition of three steering committee roles (one of which is being shared by two DJN Mediterranea members)! After much consideration and after completing the Mission, Vision, and Intentions process (details on that coming soon as well), we’ve invited Nour Arafat (Chicago node facilitator), Boaz Sender (website working group + DJN LA facilitator), and Elena Silvestrini (DJ Mediterranea facilitator/initiator), who will share the position with Marta Delatte (DJ Mediterranea). You can read all about our new members here, https://designjustice.org/steering-committee.

During our Visioning...

The Design Justice Network has been growing steadily since AMC 2018 - the Steering Committee (SC) created a network structure, opened DJN memberships, and more people are signing onto the principles and becoming members by the day!! The Steering Committee sets high-level strategy, determines the overall network structure, approves the budget, maintains information about the DJN’s structure, and reviews and approves new Nodes and Working Groups. They hold regular bi-monthly meetings and make plans about how to move the network forward, with feedback and input from DJN members - there are so many new ideas and needs!

Current members are Wes Taylor, Sasha Costanza-Chock, and Denise Shanté Brown: Steering Committee members are long-time participants in the network who have played an active role in its formation and taken part in facilitation roles in Local Nodes or Working Groups. New Steering Committee members are approved by consensus of the existing Steering Committee.

Please give a big welcome to our 3 new positions and 4 new members!
