August 2022, Design Justice Newsletter
Dear DJN Members, Signatories, and Friends,
As we move into our seasonal pause we are wishing you all moments of deep care, warmth, and protection. These pauses are always a moment for staff and the steering committee to ground ourselves and practices in care. Over the last year we have had four Care Circles events for the network. To keep that energy going, leave you with these questions. What does care look like for you at this moment? How can you move with an understanding of the care circle in daily practice? The care circle is a space to slow down and practice more life-giving ways of doing design justice work. So how can we integrate those small moments like that into our work? You can read more about the Care Circle here.
Our official dates of pause are August 27th - September 11th.

London UK DJN Node - Help us choose our next Book Club time!
We’re starting another virtual book club of the Design Justice Network's London node! In the autumn, we will be reading Data Feminism by Catherine D'Ignazio and Lauren F. Klein, available open-source by MIT Press here. We invite you to read and then discuss with us - one chapter per month.
We tend to offer two different days of the week when we hold the book club. We'd like you to help us choose the days and times for these virtual discussions. In the survey, you can indicate which days and times would suit you and your current circumstances. Please indicate all your preferences by 8 pm on Mon, 29 Aug. Form is here: https://forms.gle/wjuq6n7QBdREWk7Z7

Design Justice Network opportunities
Would you be willing to share your experiences with the Design Justice Network? There are no prerequisites (including a traditional design background), and past stories have featured members working in a variety of fields such as social work, community organizing, and handicrafts. We make the process easy for you (no writing involved!) and will only share what/how you consent for us to. We are particularly interested in hearing from members outside of Europe and the North American East Coast. If you have questions or interests, please contact Lydia at designjusticenetwork@gmail.com.
If you’re new to the Design Justice Network, welcome! Here are some resources to help get you started. As we continue to build these resources we welcome your questions and feedback.
